HOW LITERACY FOR LIFE STARTED

Founded In 2019

Literacy for Life pursues opportunities in the U. S., and abroad to ensure we stay focused on our mission to support literacy development and enhance educational programs.  To accomplish our goals, we have initiated and collaborated with after school programs in the U.S.  Specifically, we supported the after school development program offered by the Fountain of Life Ministries in Houston, Texas.  The ministry’s after school program  goal is to help students, particularly bi-lingual students increase knowledge and understanding of basic school subjects.

We have mentioned our current construction project in Sagyimase, Ghana. Through a partnership with the Julianna Frimpomaa Foundation, Literacy for Life is constructing a library to serve students, teachers and all who want to benefit from the services offered by the library. Sagyimase, which has a population of 5,000+, along with many people from the surrounding villages will have the opportunity to learn, increase literacy proficiency and increase their knowledge. Once established, the Julianna “Ama” Frimpomaa Library will provide educational tools including: books, computers, newspapers, literacy classes, computer literacy and educational video programs. Plans for the 1,300 square feet library include acquiring more than 2,000 adult and children’s books, many of which will be focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and align with the curriculum of the local school system. Students will receive free access to the library in an effort to broaden their knowledge and improve on their academic performance.
